Loughton Contracts were appointed in May 2017 by Knight Harwood to assist with the floor finishes on a new mixed use development in the heart of Clerkenwell.
The project saw the previous buildings dating as far back as the 19th century at 1, 2-5 Benjamin Street and 94-98 Turnmill Street, demolished to make way for a new 6-storey plus basement scheme designed by AHMM architects and features retail units over the basement and ground floor, plus offices and 4 high end residential units over the upper floors.
Working closely with the design team we came up with a bespoke timber floor solution which met their high end aspirations. Supplied by WFA, the 20mm thick European Oak prime grade herringbone timber flooring fitted throughout the apartments as well as the lobbies and lift carts was perfect for the project. This was sanded and sealed by our skilled craftsmen with 3 coats of Mapei Ultracoat High Traffic gloss lacquer providing the beautiful flooring with a long lasting and durable finish which will also be easy to for the residents to clean and maintain.
This was a challenging project with a lot of communication and co-ordination required with the design team to achieve the clients exacting requirements in terms of setting out of the timber flooring. To deliver the high level of quality required on this project we also had to work very closely with the construction team, at times out of hours, with good organisation required by our project team. Regardless of the tight programme and constraints the project was a huge success by our team which delivered on time, within budget and to an exceptional finish.
