Loughton Contracts were employed by Willmott Dixon Interiors to supply and install floor finishes to the guest bedrooms, back of house areas, meeting rooms, gymnasium, restaurant, toilets and stair cores of the brand new NHow Hotel in London’s trendy Shoreditch area.
The funky hotel interiors were designed by architects Project Orange and had an eclectic “British” theme throughout. LVT from Amtico’s signature range was installed to all 196 guest bedrooms. Within each room was an individual floor design that consisted of 6 different shades of grey and red chevron tiles laid to specific patterns.
Sub-floor preparation was key in the corridors to ensure levels achieved a seamless finish with the guest bedrooms. A bespoke Axminster carpet, produced by Brintons, featured a striking pink floral design set onto a green background running the length of the corridor on each level. The same floral design carpet had the edges whipped before being installed to one of the two stair cores leading to each guest floor. Both stair cores had brass nosing’s from C.A.T. installed throughout.
The hotel boasted 3 meeting rooms that were also installed with a bespoke Brintons carpet, this time featuring a houndstooth pattern.
Polysafe vinyl was installed to the hotel gymnasium using a combination of yellow and black sheet materials. The customer toilets were also finished with Polysafe, with the black and white sheet hand cut into individual lozenges to form the diamond pattern.
In the restaurant, end-grain Oak manufactured by Ted Todd was installed throughout. Preparation work was carried out to produce a SR-1 finish over the existing screed before fitting and an additional maintenance coat of oil was applied to the floor before handover to the client.
A tight construction programme of only 50 weeks challenged our project team, with some aspects of our installations being completed over night to allow access to other trades. Restricted storage space on site also meant that all our materials were delivered to site on a ‘just in time’ basis, testing our teams logistical planning.
