elays project

As a company, we love to do our bit for charity. So, when Mace asked us to help with the flooring at Elays Community Centre, it was something that we were only too pleased to help with. As part of the major redevelopment of Battersea Power Station Mace are working with the community to help revitalise the surrounding area. The refurbishment of Elays Community Centre was their biggest charitable project yet and they wanted the best to deliver it.

Elays Community Centre was founded in 2003 to provide a community support structure for young people and students who are at risk of exclusion from school, and not in employment, education or training in the Battersea area. The centre was looking tired so Mace asked various contractors working on the nearby Power Station project to assist in revitalising the centre.

Internal walls were removed to give larger open spaces, leaving our team the challenge of making the subfloors fit to receive new flooring. Our fitting team infilled the central trench where there was previously a dividing wall with Ardex A950, before overcoating with Ardex C25. The preparation of the subfloor was key as we were supplying Forbo Alluraflex plank tiles to match the existing flooring in the centres main function hall.

Special thanks must go to Loughton Contracts Project Manager Mark Twyman and our installation team who gave up their own time to help with this community project.

The finished results speak for themselves and the reaction from the Elays staff via Josien (Sustainability Manager at Mace) was that “they are over the moon”.
